Delta 2018

Opening performance for the group exhibition Push the Medium , 4-18 February 2018.. For Delta I responded to a former Masonic Lodge to evoke ghosts of past activities and presences. The material used was black crepe paper in rolls (total 300 metres).The paper, starting as logs in the fireplace, was rolled and hurled as tendrils extending into the space. Crepe streamers evoke parties and celebrations, but these broad black strips, ominous as a black mass, elegant in their pleated form offered a mass with which to cloak and conceal myself. In this way I animated and became a “spirit” presence. Finally completely submerged in paper I returned into the fireplace. The title Delta suggests flow and sediment. The performance included six sculptured pyramids of paper and four hanging strips above. I also conducted a workshop “The Performative Trace” for local artists. A documentation video of my performance An Uneasy Piece with Eggs (2017) was included in the exhibition.
