Unappeased Penang 2014

14 Nov 2014 : PenangPac (Performing Arts Centre of Penang), Malaysia

Showings of a new ensemble work developed by WeiZen Ho and Alan Schacher with collaborators. This work was developed through a residency with penangpac and followed on from our research of Penang’s Hungry Ghost Festival in 2013. It examines, as source inspiration, the rituals and belief-systems around death and honouring the departed in Southeast Asian cultures, inspired by Penang’s Hungry Ghost Festival. As an inter-disciplinary project that is being developed in exchange between artists in Australia and Malaysia, it absorbs, re-interprets and re-imagines archetypes and metaphors for the Hungry Ghost in the context of a global and highly mobile contemporary world.
